Frontiers | Resistance Training Variables for Optimization of Muscle Hypertrophy: An Umbrella Review

In addition, other variables as, exercise order, time of the day and type of periodization appear not to directly influence the magnitude of muscle mass gains.

resistance training and their associated hypertrophy adaptations have been shown to have health benefits such as reducing body fat, increasing metabolic rate, lowering blood pressure and cardiovascular demands on exercise, improving blood lipid profile, glucose tolerance and insulin sensitivity, a reduction in the risk of suffering from type II diabetes, an improvement in mobility and functional capacity, an increase in strength, muscle and bone mass, and an increase in related factors with quality of life

For all these aforementioned benefits, a comprehensive and controlled increase in muscle mass seems to be recommended for anyone, regardless of their age or fitness level.

The Effects of Exercise on Appetite in Older Adults: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis - PMC

In young adults, it has been documented that physical activity and exercise may induce a compensatory response in energy intake

evidence from long-term studies in young adults indicates that improvements in body composition and function result in enhanced satiety sensitivity, thus promoting metabolic balance and relative appetite control

This suggests that fidelity to regular activity programs improves appetite control, helping to regulate accompanying increases in hunger drive

Effect of exercise training interventions on energy intake and appetite control in adults with overweight or obesity: A systematic review and meta‐analysis - PMC

In the last 10 years, it has been well documented that energy expenditure is a major driver of energy intake.

Although the major energy demand is generated by resting metabolic rate (RMR),15, 16 activity energy expenditure also exerts a positive but weaker effect,

and daily physical activity is associated with daily food intake.

Effects of Movement Behaviors on Overall Health and Appetite Control: Current Evidence and Perspectives in Children and Adolescents - PMC

Both low levels of PA and high levels of SB have been associated with increased food intake and poor diet quality in children

higher PA level was associated with a higher intake of healthy food (i.e., fruits and vegetables) and a lower intake of unhealthy food

Evidence is presently accumulating to support the view that PA and SB can interact with appetite control and affect food intake in children with obesity

Full article: Electromyographic differences of the gluteus maximus, gluteus medius, biceps femoris, and vastus lateralis between the barbell hip thrust and barbell glute bridge

the BGB elicited significantly greater muscle activity in the upper and lower gluteus maximus for peak and mean outcomes and mean outcome in the gluteus medius.

Current findings suggest, the BGB is, at minimum, a superior substitute for the BHT for eliciting a larger magnitude of activity in the gluteus maximus.

To date, there is no research investigating the differences in muscular activity between the BHT and the BGB

MASS Research Review

Researchers conducted a meta-analysis to compare the magnitude of strength gains and hypertrophy between volume-equated periodized and non-periodized programs.

However, periodization did not significantly impact hypertrophy.

Findings showed that periodized training led to significantly greater strength gains than non-periodized training.
