Shedding Some Light on Long COVID

There have been reports that Long COVID is less prevalent with Omicron and reduced by vaccination, but none have prospectively captured symptom data before infection.

The cortisol and ACTH levels were drawn at approximately the same time in the different groups, which is important to note since they are highly influenced by our circadian clock.

The levels of cortisol were "uniformly low" among the people with Long COVID, as you can see from the partitioning in the far right diagram, and this marker was clearly the most significant predictor for Long COVID (an AUC of 0.96 is pretty striking).

Monkeypox

As orthopoxviruses are serologically cross-reactive, antigen and antibody detection methods do not provide monkeypox-specific confirmation. Serology and antigen detection methods are therefore not recommended for diagnosis or case investigation where resources are limited. Additionally, recent or remote vaccination with a vaccinia-based vaccine (e.g. anyone vaccinated before smallpox eradication, or more recently vaccinated due to higher risk such as orthopoxvirus laboratory personnel) might lead to false positive results.

Op-Ed: No, Mr. President, the pandemic isn't over - Los Angeles Times

The only way to be certain of preventing it is to never become infected

We should redefine “fully vaccinated” to mean at least three shots, not just the initial two. But the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention refuses to budge on that definition.

And now the president has declared “the pandemic is over,” which surely will not help to get more Americans boosted.

Will the monkeypox virus become more dangerous? | Science | AAAS

with the nucleotide combination guanine-arginine changing to arginine-arginine, or thymine-cytosine changing to thymine-thymine.

Those mutations are probably traces of an ongoing fight between the virus and the human immune system

and the changes spotted in the monkeypox genomes are its signature
