Therapeutic Strategies Targeting Mitochondrial Calcium Signaling: A New Hope for Neurological Diseases? - PMC
termed endoplasmic reticulum–mitochondria-associated membranes (MAMs), formed by proteins resident in both compartments. These tethers are essential to manage the mitochondrial Ca2+ influx that regulates the mitochondrial function of bioenergetics, mitochondrial dynamics, cell death, and oxidative stres
compounds targeting mitochondrial Ca2+ uptake can, therefore, exert antioxidant properties, making them more versatile in restoring the molecular defects involved in these diseases.

Why we should be giving therapy to violent offenders | Gwen Adshead | The Guardian
deprivation of liberty.
e miraculous capacities and plasticity of the mind, particularly the still-developing young mind. We also have a wealth of research evidence about what types of therapy can make a difference. Failure to use such knowledge would be a kind of madness on our part. We all want the world to be a safer place. I suggest the pressing question about the treatment of violent offenders is not “Why bother?” but “Can we afford not to?”

Making employment part of offender rehabilitation | Novus
x-offenders into employment has a significant and lasting impact on both the level of crime and the cost to society, a cost estimated at around £60 billion in England and Wales. Around 18% of that is due to re-offending by recent prisoners. This puts the bill for the UK at around £13 billion per year, with each reoffending former prisoner potentially costing the criminal justice system an average of £65,000.

Footwear Impressions - Forensic Assessment | Footwear Forensics
However, small damage features on an undersole which are randomly created by the act of walking about in the footwear, if manifested in the crime scene mark, could potentially provide conclusive evidence of association simply because such features are entirley random in their creation, size, and relative positions on the undersole In summary therefore, many factors have to be taken into account when assessing the strength of footwear evidence and in our experience it is vital that such evidence is independently assessed and evaluated. Indeed, in the past few years or so we have been involved in several cases where we have successfully demonstrated to the jury that the strength of footwear evidence was in our opinion overstated in cases which relied heavily on that evidence, and not guilty verdicts were returned.
features of the undersole such as pattern, pattern configuration, size, degree of wear, and damage features are all assessed
n addition, the crime scene mark might show evidence of slight movement
