Choosing Southernness, Choosing My Father's Way ~ The Imaginative Conservative
Our ceaseless modern quest for liberation is the great delusion of our time.

Vinyl Chloride - Cancer-Causing Substances - NCI
Vinyl chloride is a colorless gas that burns easily. It does not occur naturally and must be produced industrially for its commercial uses. Vinyl chloride is used primarily to make polyvinyl chloride (PVC), a hard plastic resin used to make a variety of plastic products, including pipes, wire and cable coatings, and packaging materials.
Vinyl chloride is also produced as a combustion product in tobacco smoke.

Vinyl Chloride | H2C=CHCl - PubChem
Vapors are heavier than air
Vinyl chloride appears as a colorless gas with a sweet odor. Easily ignited. Shipped as a liquefied gas under own vapor pressure. Contact with the unconfined liquid may cause frostbite by evaporative cooling.
Large fires of this material are practically inextinguishable.

Thomas More: Virtuous Statesman-The Imaginative Conservative
The rule of law is the surest safeguard against injustice since laws generally reflect the collective wisdom of tradition.
A statesman must do his best with the institutions and customs at hand.
More’s thought, as Wegemer points out, is an alternative to the social contract theorists of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries (12).

The Monroe Doctrine ~ The Imaginative Conservative
as a principle in which the rights and interests of the United States are involved, that the American continents, by the free and independent condition which they have assumed and maintain, are henceforth not to be considered as subjects for future colonization by any European powers . . .
With the existing colonies or dependencies of any European power we have not interfered and shall not interfere. But with the Governments who have declared their independence and maintain it, and whose independence we have, on great consideration and on just principles, acknowledged, we could not view any interposition for the purpose of oppressing them, or controlling in any other manner their destiny, by any European power in any other light than as the manifestation of an unfriendly disposition toward the United States.
It is impossible that the allied powers should extend their political system to any portion of either continent without endangering our peace and happiness; nor can anyone believe that our southern brethren, if left to themselves, would adopt it of their own accord.

Phyllis Schlafly on Women’s Responsibility for Sexual Harassment (1981) | The American Yawp Reader
Senators and Congressmen should heed the oft-quoted prayer, “Lord, help me to change the things I can change, to accept the things I cannot change, and give me the wisdom to know the difference.” Congress cannot prevent or police the sexual attraction men and women have for each other. But Congress can: (a) Stop the government-induced inflation which forces more and more women to join the labor force even though so many of them would prefer to be in the home. (b) Keep women out of places where they don’t belong, such as on ships of the U.S. Navy, and in military academy dormitories, and in military barracks where there Is nothing between sleeping servicemen and servicewomen except maybe a curtain. (c) Stop the Affirmative Action for women which forces women into jobs where the predictable effect is sex on the job and broken marriages.

The Port Huron Statement (1962) | The American Yawp Reader
We would replace power rooted in possession, privilege, or circumstance by power and uniqueness rooted in love, reflectiveness, reason, and creativity. As a social system we seek the establishment of a democracy of individual participation, governed by two central aims: that the individual share in those social decisions determining the quality and direction of his life; that society be organized to encourage independence in men and provide the media for their common participation.
that politics be seen positively, as the art of collectively creating an acceptable pattern of social relations; that politics has the function of bringing people out of isolation and into community, thus being a necessary, though not sufficient, means of finding meaning in personal life;

National Organization for Women, “Statement of Purpose” (1966) | The American Yawp Reader
We believe that women can achieve such equality only by accepting to the full the challenges and responsibilities they share with all other people in our society, as part of the decision-making mainstream of American political, economic and social life.
With a life span lengthened to nearly 75 years it is no longer either necessary or possible for women to devote the greatest part of their lives to child-rearing; yet childbearing and rearing which continues to be a most important part of most women’s lives — still is used to justify barring women from equal professional and economic participation and advance.
True equality of opportunity and freedom of choice for women requires such practical, and possible innovations as a nationwide network of child-care center which will make in unnecessary for women to retire completely from society until their children are grown, and national programs to provide retraining for women who have chosen the care for their own children full-time.

Lyndon Johnson, Howard University Commencement Address (1965) | The American Yawp Reader
Freedom is the right to share, share fully and equally, in American society–to vote, to hold a job, to enter a public place, to go to school. It is the right to be treated in every part of our national life as a person equal in dignity and promise to all others.
We seek not just legal equity but human ability, not just equality as a right and a theory but equality as a fact and equality as a result.
For what is justice? It is to fulfill the fair expectations of man.
